What is saint mariana?

Saint Mariana of Jesus Paredes is an Ecuadorian Roman Catholic saint who was born on October 31, 1618, in Quito, Ecuador. She was the daughter of a Spanish nobleman, who brought her up in a strict Catholic tradition.

From an early age, Mariana showed an intense devotion to God, and she wanted to enter the convent. However, as her father was not supportive of her decision, she joined a group of laypeople who lived a religious life within their own homes.

Mariana became known for her piety, humility, and charity. People sought her counsel and sought her prayers for their needs. She was also known for her mystical experiences, which included the stigmata, ecstasies, and visions.

Mariana lived a life of penance, fasted frequently, and spent long hours in prayer. She died on May 26, 1645, at the age of 26.

St. Mariana was canonized on October 12, 1984, by Pope John Paul II. She is the first Ecuadorian saint and the first American-born canonized layperson. Saint Mariana is the patron saint of the sick, the abused, and the mistreated. Her feast day is celebrated on May 26.
